The Portuguese Symphony Orchestra


The Portuguese Symphony Orchestra of the San Carlo National Theater - founded in 1993 by the Portuguese Government - has received enthusiastic reviews and many invitations from a variety of music festivals as well as from European concert agencies to tour Europe, America and the Asia Pacific region.

On its first visit to Macau, the orchestra will perform the '2010 New Year's Concert' in conjunction with the Macau Youth Symphony Orchestra.

The Portuguese Symphony Orchestra will begin the concert with the Symphony nr. 3 in A minor “Scottish” by Felix Mendelssohn which will include the participation of 25 more advanced musicians from Macau Youth Symphony Orchestra. The orchestra will then present a selection of waltzes and polkas by the Strauss brothers. The night will end with the whole Macau Youth Symphony joining the PSO in the performance of the polkas Im Krapfenwaldl, op. 336 and Tritsch-Tratsch-Polka op. 336 by Johann Strauss II.

Macau's unique cultural heritage is traditionally highlighted through Portuguese folk dances performances that unfailingly delight spectators of all nationalities.

Macau Government Tourist Office regularly hosts these popular tourist attractions at A-Ma Temple and the Ruins of St. Paul's, both of which are prominent landmarks in the UNESCO-listed Historic Centre of Macau. Visitors to the city can enjoy free performances every Sunday.

City of Dreams announced the countdown to the launch of its one-of-a-kind kids play zone "Kids' City" - an exciting new feature at the leisure and entertainment destination. Macau's largest kids' attraction will be officially opened to the public in the first quarter of 2010 and is the first part of a range of new and exciting experiences the resort will introduce in 2010.

“"Kids' City" offers a wide variety of activities to allow every child to explore an opportunity to discover their own path of enjoyment and creativity. Parents can certainly join in the fun or enjoy other facilities at City of Dreams in the knowledge their kids are being supervised by industry trained professionals,” said Mr. Greg Hawkins, President of City of Dreams.

This approximately 1,000 square-meter children's playground will group all facilities under four distinct zones EXCITE, EXPLORE, DREAM, and CREATE. This includes multi-climbing facility, video games, bouncing castle, bubble play, arts and crafts, stage performance, and a princess dress up. Each area will provide new and creative methods of interaction for the children. The venue will also offer themed hassle-free kids' birthday parties with party planners to ensure an unforgettable birthday experience. A stage will be featured to continually refresh the entertainment offerings from music events and performances. It is designed not only to offer just great fun, but a tool to nurture every child‟s abilities and confidence through various avenues offered at their own pace.

Free vaccination against influenza A H1N1 澳門政府為所有居民接種H1N1疫苗 (澳门政府为所有居民接种H1N1疫苗)

The Macau government will start on 1st Jan the free vaccination against influenza A H1N1 of permanent residents. It is for those who have been residing in the territory for seven years and over. The vaccine will be administered free of charge.

The first phase of the vaccination program, which began in November this year, has already covered more than 40,000 residents of Macau, including health professionals and other front line workers, people with chronic illnesses, pregnant women, infants, children and youth. The Health Bureau (SS) commissioned 600,000 doses of the vaccine to cover the entire population, before the occurrence of the peak season of the flu that usually takes place in February and March.


澳門宣布為因應第2波H1N1新型流感來臨, 政府作出相應預防措施, 決定由2010年1月1日起為所有澳門居民接種H1N1新型流感疫苗。 持居民身分證人士免費接種。 澳門居民可自行前往各衛生中心、山頂醫院、鏡湖醫院及工人醫療所接種疫苗, 衛生局亦接受機構要求安排集體接種。

根據世界衛生組織的指引以及經研究歐美等地疾控中心的意見, 預計明年的流感高峰期將由一般的2月至3月提前到1月, 所以政府作出相應預防措施, 採購足夠的H1N1疫苗。 衛生部門會進一步介紹接種疫苗的相關事宜, 讓市民知悉疫苗的好處, 並對副作用有正確了解。 持有澳門居民身分證人士獲免費接種H1N1疫苗, 持有外勞證人士可獲優惠價澳門幣50元接種疫苗, 旅客接種費則為澳門幣300元。

澳門現存19.5萬劑新型流感疫苗, 加上將於2010年1月運抵的40萬劑疫苗, 相信足夠澳門居民使用。 衛生局已向瑞士諾華公司訂購70萬劑獲歐盟批准的甲型H1N1流感疫苗, 將因應實際情況需要與疫苗生產商商討調整購買數量, 以確保本澳居民有足夠的甲型H1N1流感疫苗接種。

澳門特區流感應變協調中心呼吁全體居民接種疫苗, 並按衛生局指引, 注意個人衛生和做好預防措施。

Visitors will have the opportunity to visit tulips exhibition which was held from 23rd December, shows over 100 thousand tulips at Av. da Praia in Taipa.

Known as the Queen of Flowers, the tulip is classified as a perennial bulb flower, the genus of Tulipa, the family of Liliaceae. It has been described as the most expensive flower of ancient times, with tulip bulbs valued at the equivalent of about US$1,000 dollars in 17th Century Holland.

Viva Macau Airlines will open a direct route to Hanoi to celebrate the Tet (Vietnamese new year) holiday and offer special off-peak fares on the occasion. The service will commence from 13 February with three flights weekly on every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.

The airline is offering special off-peak fares from US$25 one way on economy class on the route while business class tickets are also available from $199 one way, excluding taxes and surcharges.

Hanoi is the capital and second-largest city of Vietnam, located on the right bank of the Red River and 1,760 km north of Ho Chi Minh City. It is a fascinating city with a mixed culture from the East and West. The world’s biggest casino company - Harrah’s Entertainment is seeking to bring the Caesars Palace to Macau. The plans were disclosed by its chairman and chief executive Gary Loveman in an interview. Harrah’s has owned a golf course on Cotai since 2007.

"There's nothing immediately active that could lead us there," Loveman tells Bloomberg. "We've made it very clear we would like to see the Caesars Palace brand in Macau. We certainly recognize there are six licensees, and somehow or other it has to fit through that lens."

However, entering the local market would require working jointly with an existing operator, as the limit of licences is six. The brand has already held preliminary talks with unnamed Macau operators. Besides, Harrah’s is also trying to expand in other parts of Asia, and in the United States, in particular in Massachusetts and Ohio.

Harrah’s Entertainment own four properties in Atlantic City, New Jersey, and seven on the Las Vegas Strip, including Caesars Palace.

University of Macau new campus promotional video

The new campus of the University of Macau, connected with Macao by a waterway, is located in the east of Hengqin Island, Guangdong Province, with Hengqin Mountain forming a beautiful backdrop. Covering a plot of land of 1.0926 km2 and with a total floor area of approximately 820,000 m2, it will be nearly 20 times larger than the existing campus and will be able to accommodate approximately 10,000 students. An underwater tunnel will be built to connect the new campus with Macao. People will be able to conveniently access the campus from the Macao side at any time without going through any immigration control.

Cubic's First Anniversary Celebration Party - Big Ali

Renowned New York City rapper - Big Ali, is coming to Macau for a singing performance. The party will bring in another trendier entertainment element to the town’s clubbing scene in Christmas.

Big Ali is working all around the world. Among others, he did the premiere of many international stars such as Usher, Nelly Furtado and Christina Aguilera. Big Ali has participated in many events organised by the famous P. Diddy, particularly every summer in Saint Tropez. He is also MC at the Cannes’ film Festival, and is at the VIP Room every summer in Saint Tropez. He celebrated Cerrone’s 30 years’ carrier at the Olympia, in Paris. Considered one of the best MC, Big Ali is « setting on fire » everywhere he goes.

He has worked with many successful French artists such as Bob Sinclar with “Rock this Party” that reached top ten in most European Countries. This song was a huge success in several other countries. The remix of "Rock This Party" reached number 1 on the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play Charts. The Hit was co produced by Cutee B who has worked with Big Ali on his new album “Louder”.

Macau Science Center opens to the public 澳門科學館開幕 (澳门科学馆开幕)

Designed by internationally renowned and Guangzhou-born architect Ieoh Ming Pei and his two sons, Li Chung Pei and Chien Chung Pei, of New York-based firm Pei Partnerships Architects - The Macau Science Center, situated on Macau Harbour is opened on the 19th December. The center cost more than US$90 million to build. It will serve as an educational facility for young people in and around the region.

The 23,000 sq m building will house 14 exhibits taking up 7,000 square metres, a 150-seat planetarium, a conference centre to accommodate 500 people and an observation deck. The planetarium will also exhibit fourteen different topics and themes such as sound, light, electricity, biology, robots and environmental protection at the main exhibition centre. The convention centre of the Science Museum can be used as a multifunctional exhibition centre and outdoor exhibition space.

科學館前地廣場設有綠化及行人專用區、公共交通工具上落區以至大型旅遊車停泊區等周邊配套設施。 沿岸建有海濱步行徑可供遊人欣賞澳氹兩岸景色, 教育與旅遊元素結合的科學館料將成為澳門的又一新景點。
