Dairy Queen to set foot in Macau

Dairy Queen (DQ) - an international chain of soft serve and fast food restaurants, is planning to open its first stores in Macau this year, Reuters reported.

Owned by American Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway Inc., the company said Hon Hoi Group (International) Co. has plans to open a DQ in Macau this spring and a second location in the territory later this year.

Based in Minneapolis, Dairy Queen said it had more than 5,700 stores in 19 countries, including 652 locations outside the United States and Canada.

José Drummond aka DJ D'mond did his first solo Painting exhibition in 1989. In the same year his passion behind the decks exploded with his unique crossover mix of punk, Electronica and House beats that took him to be the Resident of the legendary Lisbon Xabregas warehouse parties and some of the trendy city clubs. In 1994 his curiosity for Chinese art made him fly to Asia. His record collection was his luggage. The adventure was only about to start… Ten years later he is one of Portugal’s electronic music exports. His devotion for electronic music recognized him as a key player in the development of Asian Club Scene, touring everywhere in Asia and specially in the big China. His level of exposure, enabled him to team up with some of the industry icons, including Sasha, John Digweed, Derrick May, Nick Warren, James Zabiela, Lee Burridge, Chris Fortier, Anthony Pappa, Ricky Stone, Goldie and DJ SS. His insatiable need to challenge himself provided him with the confidence to start the electropunk band "Chopstick Dominators" and the production acts "The Man With Two Brains", “Dr. Caligari” and recently “Tchek Hoi Corp” with other portuguese DJ Bubble. In 2005 was 177 in the 250 DJ MAG Chart, repeating the list in the following year with number 186.

Mandarin’s House opens to the public 澳門歷史城區”之一鄭家大屋對外開放 (澳门历史城区”之一郑家大屋对外开放)

The Mandarin’s House has opened to the public again from 5th Feb after eight years of restoration work. The house is currently hosting an exhibition about the restoration work which was started in July 2001, when the Cultural Affairs Bureau of Macau took over the residence. The residence is located right in the middle of Macau’s historical centre and near one of the most famous squares, Largo do Lilau.

The construction of the residence was built around 1869 and was the ancestral home of Zheng Guanying. The residence was initiated by Zheng Wenrui, the father of Zheng Guanying, and was later expanded by the Zheng brothers. IT was designed in various architectural styles, including the Portuguese and Guangdong traditional features. This residence is a rare example of East-West architectural fusion meant to be found in Macau. The entire complex has more than 60 rooms in total and it is one of the few surviving examples of a traditional residence of the wealthy Chinese in Macau.

During the first phase of expansion, a museum next to the Mandarin’s House will be established. The government is planning to create a museum about Zheng Guanying’s life when he was living in the house. The government will also plans to transform the centre to the house into a memorial of Zheng Guanying. Experts from Shanghai and the Cultural Affairs Bureau of Macau are working together to collect more information about Zheng.

Cheng Kuan Yin - alias Chuang Kai Wa (1812-1893) was a scholar and a very wealthy men, friend of Sun Yat Sen, founder of the Chinese republic who met in this compound to discuss problems and solutions for a modern China.

The Mandarin’s House is located in Travessa de Antonio da Silva, Lilau Square.

The space is open daily from 10 am to 6 pm, and is closed on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Entries are in limited numbers for safety reasons.

澳門歷史城區”之一鄭家大屋對外開放, 料鄭觀應生平展館、文史資料館等工程於三年內建成。 鄭家大屋透過與旅遊局合作, 屆時把周邊的亞婆井前地、港務局大樓、媽閣廟、主教山及聖老楞佐堂等景點串連起來, 拓展旅遊路線, 發揮環境優勢。

由2月5日下午3時起, 市民及遊客可入內參觀“鄭家大屋修復展示”, 是次“鄭家大屋修復展示”, 巿民及遊客將可重點觀看鄭家大屋歷經八年的修復成果, 公眾可欣賞鄭家大屋的多處空間包括轎道、大花園、文昌廳以及主體建築部分的餘慶堂及積善堂地面層及樓上大廳等。 此外大屋內尚設展覽室, 通過大屋修復前後面貌照片、修復材料、建築模型及建築構件展示等, 有助公眾在新舊對比中, 了解文化遺產修復的艱巨性和複雜性, 從而倍加珍視。 “鄭家大屋修復展示”平日的參觀時間由上午10時至下午6時，逢星期三、四休館。 為保護這一重要的文化遺產, 鄭家大屋將實行人流管制措施： 同一時間全屋最多接待100名公眾; 同一時間，餘慶堂地面層、樓上大廳及積善堂地面層分別最多接待20名公眾。

鄭家大屋是近代著名思想家鄭觀應的故居, 據掛設於屋內餘慶堂大廳的木牌匾楹聯所示, 其建造年份應在1869年之前, 為一院落式大宅。 大屋由鄭觀應之父鄭文瑞始建, 其後鄭觀應及其兄弟陸續修建, 規模不斷擴大, 現佔地4000平方米, 由多座不同風格建築及開放空間組成, 大小房間共有六十多間, 是澳門少見的家族式建築群。 該建築既有鮮明傳統廣東民宅特點, 亦隨處流溢西方建築特色, 充分體現了澳門中西文化交融的特徵。

澳門文化局自2005年起與上海圖書館合作, 共同出版了《鄭觀應文獻選集》系列叢書, 包括《盛世危言》、《鄭觀應檔案名人手札》及《香山鄭慎餘堂待鶴老人囑書》等, 今年將會出版鄭觀應的工作日記《長江日記》。 在音像資料方面2008年與上海音像資料館合作製作了《鄭觀應》文獻紀錄片, 目前則在製作《鄭觀應與洋務運動》文獻紀錄片, 專題介紹鄭觀應在洋務運動中, 對中國航運、電報、紡織、礦冶和鐵路業等所作的貢獻。

CotaiJet will add a new route to Kowlooon in Hong Kong 金珠船務開通尖沙咀氹仔客運航線 (金珠船务开通尖沙咀氹仔客运航线)

CotaiJet - the ferry service run by Las Vegas Sands Corp, which bring customers to Macau from Hong Kong, has been granted a new license and additional routes. The ferry will add a new route to its schedule linking Taipa to the China Ferry Terminal, located in Kowloon, Hong Kong.

According to Sands China, the route will be in service from February 7 onwards, with three round trips every day connecting Taipa and Kowloon.

Licenses for five companies running 14 ferry routes between Macau, Hong Kong and Guangdong province have received government approval, the Maritime Administration (CP) announced on January.

金光飛航即將首先開通九龍中國客運碼頭至澳門氹仔客運碼頭航線。 金光渡輪有限公司負責人介紹, 剛獲批的九龍中國客運碼頭至澳門氹仔客運碼頭航線初期每天對開3個航班 - 即中國客運碼頭於每天8時、9時半及11時開出3個航班, 澳門氹仔客運碼頭於每天12時半、15時及17時半開出3個航班。 航線票價與來往中環港澳碼頭的航班票價一致。 同時，金光飛航同時將視市場情況適時申請增開航班, 加密班次。

現時於氹仔客運碼頭營運中的航線分別有往返香港港澳碼頭、香港機場海天碼頭、江門港澳碼頭，以及深圳蛇口的航線, 加上即將開航的往返香港中國客運碼頭的航線, 氹仔客運碼頭的對外海上客運航線將增至5條。

Procession of the Passion of Our Lord 苦難耶穌聖像巡遊 (苦难耶稣圣像巡遊)

The unique event known as the 'Procession of the Passion of Our Lord, the God Jesus' is a celebration of long standing in Macau, and dates back to the missionaries in and around the territory from the 16th Century. Christians in Macau participate in a solemn procession through the streets in a re-enactment of Jesus carrying the cross to his crucifixion. Starting at St. Augustine's Church, a figure of Christ bearing the cross is carried in procession to the Cathedral, where it is left during an overnight vigil before being returned to St. Augustine's Church the following day.

苦難耶穌聖像巡遊是天主教每年一度的重要紀念儀式, 自16世紀設立澳門教區以來便一直繼承著這個傳統。 苦難耶穌聖像現存放在聖奧斯定堂, 於每年四旬期舉行巡遊, 從不間斷。

第一天下午先後在聖奧斯定堂舉行粵語及葡語彌撒, 晚上7時開始聖像巡遊, 最後將聖像送到主教座堂接受祝禱, 第二天送回聖奧斯定教堂。 整個巡遊途經世界遺產「澳門歷史城區」的不同古蹟, 如議事亭前地、玫瑰堂、聖老楞佐堂等, 參加者可同時遊覽這些景點。

Macau casino hotel investor Get Nice Holdings Ltd has allocated over MOP$100 million to renovate its 50% owned Grand Waldo complex in Macau to expand its presence.

The first phase involves the relocation of the Grand Waldo Casino, which was completed and it reopened on 31st January. Thirty-eight gambling tables and 93 slot machines now occupy a smaller hall, reducing operating costs by as much as 40%, said Kam, adding that the relocation will also leave more space for the firm's shopping mall in the future.

The company will rebuild its spa center through adding more than 160 rooms in the second half of this year.

第二階段將投資7000萬元, 將金都水療休閒中心打造成澳門最具規模的水療中心, 該中心占地25萬平方呎, 全澳最大。 水療中心2月1日起翻新, 預計第三、四季竣工。 未來將在水療中心增加160間客房, 房價將較酒店房便宜約20%。

第三階段投資8000萬至1.2億元重點規劃金都綜合樓內的特賣場, 特賣場樓高6層、占地60萬平方呎, 務求打造成澳門首間集購物、餐飲及休閒於一身的特賣場, 預期可進一步帶動區內人流。 至於餐飲部分目前計畫增加美食廣場、酒吧街及24小時港式茶餐廳, 針對旅客和澳門人。

The permanent exhibition at the casino resort in Macau - MJ Gallery, will display 40 coveted items of Michael Jackson memorabilia, alongside depictions of the most important moments in the King of Pop's life. One of the key exhibits at the MJ Gallery is the stumped up $350,000 US dollars for Jackson's left-handed glove – worn by the singer when he performed his first "moonwalk" dance in 1983.

The opening ceremony of the Gallery, the first of its kind in Asia, was attended by pop stars and locals.

Aside from the exhibition hall, the gallery also consists of a "time tunnel" that showed the most important moments of MJ's music life through pictures and videos, a music video showroom that plays his famous "Billie Jean" MV, and a gift shop. The chairman of Ponte 16 Ambrose So said at the opening ceremony that they have spent a fortune on the collector items displayed at the gallery, and hoped that the gallery will become a tourist attraction at his hotel.

Portuguese Folk Dances


Macau's unique cultural heritage is traditionally highlighted through Portuguese folk dances performances that unfailingly delight spectators of all nationalities.

Macau Government Tourist Office regularly hosts these popular tourist attractions at A-Ma Temple and the Ruins of St. Paul's, both of which are prominent landmarks in the UNESCO-listed Historic Centre of Macau. Visitors to the city can enjoy free performances every Sunday.

源自葡萄牙傳統舞蹈土風舞, 是一種以輕鬆而靈活舞步組成的集體舞。 一對對男女表演者在強勁的節奏下起舞, 帶動觀眾投入熱鬧的氣氛中。 這個月到世界遺產「澳門歷史城區」的媽閣廟前地及大三巴牌坊, 可免費欣賞這項各有特色的表演。

House DJ Cliff Vermette returns to Cubic for 2010!

Cliff Vermette’s DJ career began in the mid 90’s in Canada. Quickly progressing in Vancouver’s underground party scene, Cliff found himself riding a wave of popularity based on his unique blend of music [that is 1 part awesome to 25 parts super awesome]. He was the first in Vancouver to integrate the British sound with West Coast breaks and was soon to be found headlining most local shows. His exposure there led him to performances across the Americas including Canada, the USA (New York, Los Angeles) Brazil, Mexico, and Venezuela.

Cliff has a reputation for the most danceable sets. He brings a unique energy behind the decks and makes the crowd a large part of his show. His music and skills represent over 13 years of expertise. Lately, his music is a blend of anything and everything from smooth deep house sets at sunset to hard charging sets into the early hours of the morning. Cliff feels that there are only 2 kinds of music, the good kind and the bad kind – he only plays the good kind. Cliff has headlined to crowds of over 10,000 people (Summerlove 2000 – Vancouver, Spring Scream, 03-06) yet still enjoys playing to small intimate crowds.
