“HUSH!! Full Band 2009” is proud to present its fifth edition on the 26th September, bringing to rock fans another exciting musical marathon.

With "Originals" being this year’s theme, the festival provided not only a stage for local bands exposure, but also a fabulous opportunity for Macau rock talents to exchange experiences with bands from China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and South East Asia.

The hottest annual rock festival captivates the audience with supreme drum beats and roaring waves, featuring this year the special guests Soler and Jun Kung. Coming from several Asian cities are the rocky J-Hoon & Nyco Maca+PG (Manila), the bursting Saint Loco (Jakarta), the punky Reflector (Beijing), the sparkled Tizzy Bac (Taipei) as well as the striking RubberBand (Hong Kong) to share their electrifying music.

Selected by audience in 2008, the three “Best Local Bands” Scamper, L.A.V.Y. and OnStage were participated in this year’s rock festival. These groups with other 8 local teams: Blademark, Cactus, Experience, Forget the G, OTO (Once Teen Ones), Paul Meng & Sin Andrew + Mandarin, Vibration and WhyOceans, show up their best skills on stage.

Geisha Return to Tenmasa at Altira Macau 新濠鋒"天政"再度邀請東京松野藝伎院頂級藝伎來澳 (新濠锋"天政"再度邀请东京松野艺伎院顶级艺伎来澳)

Four geisha from the famed Matsunoya Geisha House in Tokyo have returned to Tenmasa in Macau again this year. From September 24–27, the geisha are available to entertain and serve groups of up to 12 guests at a sitting in the signature Sakura dining room. A minimum charge of MOP$60,000 will be made per party of 12. Guests are also given the option to enjoy the geisha traditions, with special menu starting from MOP$2,500 per person at common Tatami area.

The Geisha - 'gei' means ‘art’ and 'sha' means person - are traditional, female Japanese entertainers whose skills include performing various Japanese arts, such as classical music and dance.

Inauguration Ceremony of the Honours College at University of Macau 澳門大學榮譽學院舉行成立 (澳门大学荣誉学院举行成立)

The inauguration Ceremony of the Honours College at University of Macau was held on the 23rd September at the Cultural Centre of University of Macau. The ceremony was presided by the chief executive officer of Macau and the Chancellor of UM, Edmund Ho.

This newly-established UM Honor’s College will bring together a select group of high-achieving undergraduates from all disciplines, bring together honours students from all disciplines into an academically challenging environment.

The mission of the college is to help students to achieve academic excellence, build an international perspective and establish leadership and social responsibility. Upon completion of all course requirements of the Honours College, these honours students will receive special recognition at congregation and an Honours College diploma.

Graduates of the college would be ready to enter internationally competitive graduate schools, pursue successful careers, lead fulfilling personal and civic lives and be future LEADERS for Macao and beyond.

2009 Miss Macau will take place at Venetian next month - 2009澳門小姐選舉下月舉行 (2009澳门小姐选举下月举行)

Organised by G&L Group and S.I. Promotions, supported by the Macau Government Tourist Office (MGTO) and CellCast. This year the Miss Macau final pageant will take place again at the Venetian’s Cotai Arena on October 17. Candidate applications were closed on the 19th September, the organiser is currently going to select just ten to go through to the final stage of the pageant.

Miss Macau 2008 Florence Loi and Anna Kuan Barroso, 1st Runner-up, Cherry Ng - 2nd Runner-up of Miss Macau 2008, with Vanessa Chan were presented during the presentation of Miss Macau 2009 pageant held on the 22nd September.

This edition of Miss Macau pageant's grand final will be broadcasted live on TDM and produced by Hong Kong’s TVB, who will also broadcast the pageant in Hong Kong.

2008澳門小姐冠軍呂蓉茵表示, 過去一年當選體驗既難得又享受，在親善活動和國際選美中接觸到不少人，學到很多東西，包括待人處事態度等，獲益良多。過去一年亦見證了澳門另一個美麗傳說，希望今屆佳麗可繼續推廣。

Construction of Taipa Central park begins 氹仔中央公園動土 ( 氹仔中央公园动土)

The foundation ceremony for the construction of the underground car park and garden located in Taipa was held on the 17th September. The project is set to be completed within the next 3 years.

The scope of work consists in building an underground car park and a garden, equipped with various facilities in an area of land of approximately 28,000 square meters.

The construction of the park is based on residents concerns to meet the needs of Macau’s rising population. The project will include plenty of trees and other facilities in order to create a green and welcoming environment.

Thailand's Thaworn Wiratchant claimed his 11th Asian Tour victory, with a commanding six-shot triumph in Macau at the US $500,000-dollar full-field event at the Macau Golf and Country Club.

Thaworn charged home with a closing three-under-par for a four-day total of 15-under-par 269 to India's Gaganjeet Bhullar, who added the growing reputation as the rising star in Asian golf. Gaganjeet Bhullar powered his way to a final round 66 to finish in second place on 275, behind the seasoned veteran Thaworn Wiratchant. Matthew Griffin from Australia surged up the leaderboard with an eagle on the second hole to share third place with South African Keith Horne on 278. Taiwan's Lin Wen-hong and Yoshinobu Tsukada of Japan ended their campaign in fifth position on 279.

Thaworn Wiratchant victory left him one title short of equaling the Asian Tour record of 12 career wins, set by his compatriot Thongchai Jaidee, but the 42-year-old said he was confident of overtaking his countryman.

Galaxy to buy land site in Macau 銀河娛樂購澳門土地建綜合渡假酒店 (银河娱乐购澳门土地建综合渡假酒店)

Galaxy Entertainment said on 11st September it would pay US$366 million for a land site in Macau. It will plans to develop a complex including hotel, apartment and gaming facilities. The site is located in Cotai, covered 440,248 square metres with a total buildable gross floor area of 1.7 million square metres.

Currently, Galaxy Entertainment is building a property called the Galaxy Macau on the parcel, which sits next door to Las Vegas Sands Corp's massive Venetian Macau. But there is plenty of space to develop future projects on the 4.7 million square foot parcel. Meanwhile, The Galaxy Macau could open as soon as late next year, featuring two 1,500-room hotel towers.

銀河娛樂已於9月10日支付地價首期款項11.6億澳門元, 餘額另加按年利率5％計算之利息, 將由承授人平均分八期每半年支付。

銀河娛樂指, 公司正在興建的大型綜合渡假酒店發展項目乃位於該物業之內, 除發展該項目外, 物業亦為公司提供土地儲備用作發展其他階段。 預期2017年10月前竣工。

Wynn Gets Approval for Hong Kong IPO 永利澳門通過港交所上市聆訊 (永利澳门通过港交所上市聆讯)

Las Vegas-based casino operator Wynn Resorts Ltd, won regulatory approval to list its Macau casino operations in Hong Kong in a US$1 billion initial public offering, on the 10th September. Wynn Resorts plans to sell a 20% stake in the Macau operations in the IPO, people familiar with the situation said.

The roadshow for the share sale will start on 21st September, with listing slated for 9th October. Part of the proceeds from the IPO will be used to fund the US$650 million expansion of Wynn Macau by adding a second casino - Wynn Encore, in Macau.

Macau has become the primary source for Wynn revenue. Wynn Resorts generated more than half of its $723.3 million second-quarter revenue from its Macau operations.

Macau kick off its Light Rail Transit project 澳門輕鐵工程動工 (澳门轻铁工程动工)

Macau SAR government has recently began its first phase of a Light Rail Transit system project on 8th September. It will first begin with the construction work of the warehouse and workshops facilities.

The construction of the two main lines will start in the mid 2009, begins at Taipa. The LRT aims to be operating before the end of 2013. Public tender to acquire the carriages and control system would be launched by the fourth quarter of 2009.

The LRT will be its first rapid transit system within the city. According to the GIT the light rail will operate for 19 hours per day. A maximum of 8,000 passengers can be moved hourly in each direction during rush-hours. The 20 km line will be mostly elevated, with about 23 stations.

澳門輕鐵項目計劃2010年6月開展輕鐵一至兩條行車主線的工程。 輕鐵系統在澳門屬於新的交通運輸模式。 根據2007年7月發表的《軌道交通系統優化方案》, 系統首階段總長約20公里, 預計施工期於2013年前落成啟用。 預計每小時每方向載客量約八千人次。 由於氹仔較具備開工條件, 相信會首先在氹仔展開工程。

Macau Golf Open 2009 - 澳門高爾夫球公開賽2009 (澳门高尔夫球公开赛2009)

The Macau Open, supported by the Macau Sports Development Board, is celebrating its 12th anniversary this year. The tournament has long been regarded as one of the most popular events on the Asian Tour. It will be staged at the Macau Golf and Country Club from September 10-13.

Former champions includes Lee Westwood (1999) and Simon Dyson of England (2000), Colin Montgomerie (2003) of Scotland, Kane Webber (2006) of Australia, two-time winner Zhang Lian Wei (2001 and 2002) of China and last year’s winner David Gleeson of Australia.

This US$500,000 Macau Open is the 15th leg of this season’s Asian Tour Schedule. The Asian Tour is the official regional sanctioning body for professional golf in Asia.

Viva Macau to increase flights on on Macau-Tokyo route 非凡航空每周四班飛東京 (非凡航空每周四班飞东京)

In an anticipation of the rising number of visitors, Viva Macau has announced plans to increase its flight frequency. The airline decided to increase the number of flights it operates on the Tokyo (Narita) - Macau route from 2 to 4 flights per week, starting from September 16, 2009.

Viva Macau flight will depart from Tokyo on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday at 9pm. The flight will arrive in Macau Airport after the midnight at local time. The return flight will depart from Macau Airport at 2:30pm and will arrive in Tokyo at night 7:45pm.

This new schedule is a response to the steady growth of passenger traffic between Macau and Japan, further strengthening its network between both places.

Macau purposed to establish a science and technology award scheme 澳門擬設立科學獎 (澳门拟设立科学奖)

Starting from next year, the Government of Macau will reward the organizations or individuals who make great contribution to the research and development of science and technology.

The government has recently proposed to establish a science and technology award scheme. In this version of the award scheme, the science and technology award to be established includes the Scientific and Technological Invention Award, Excellent Scientific Research Award and Science and Technology R&D Award for Postgraduates. A price of MOP $1million can be awarded to the winners of the Scientific and Technological Invention Award.

This award will be open to all permanent residents of Macau or others who invented products, industrial techniques, materials and their systems by applying scientific and technological knowledge, or the invention concerned is advanced and innovative and able to generate certain economic or social benefits.

The Macau Science Centre, located on the reclaimed land on the waterfront, is plan to open in December 2009. The building will host a planetarium and a conference centre as well as a 7000 sq m of exhibition space split between 14 galleries aligned in sequence within a spiral structure.


澳門政府計劃明年起設立科學獎。 初步構思是設立三個大獎項, 提議每兩年頒發“自然科學奬”、“技術發明奬”及“科技進步奬”三大奬項, 獎勵對本澳科技事業有卓越貢獻的澳門市民。 奬勵評審委員會成員由特首委任, 可以是本澳或外地相關領域專家。 “自然科學”一等奬的奬金或可達到一百萬元, 另兩項“技術發明奬”及“科技進步奬”的一等奬提議是六十萬元及三十萬元。 除此之外科委會提議設立一項鼓勵年輕人參與研發的奬項“研究生科技研發奬”, 鼓勵本澳或外地來澳就讀學生參與科技研發, 評審則由科技發展基金負責。

對於澳門科學館的開幕籌備情況, 澳門科技委員會透露如無意外將計劃在十二月二十日或之前開幕。 澳門科學館興建三年，投資額三點三億元, 共設有十四個展廳, 其中的“太空館”、“機械人館”以及“天文館”是較先進的展館, 展品及設計意念具瞄頭。

Macau Issues Commemorative Coins for the 10 year handover 澳門回歸十年紀念幣 (澳门回归十年纪念币)

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the establishment of Macau SAR, the Monetary Authority of Macau issued a set of commemorative coins. The coins will have nominal values ranging between $10 and $250. The actual coin will cost between MOP$500 and MOP$3,500, depending on the onces of gold or silver on the coins.

On the front, the coin will feature the Statue of A-Ma which stands on Coloane Peak. On the back there will be a sculpture of the “Lotus Flower in Full Blossom” standing at the Lotus Square, which symbolises everlasting prosperity.

Subscriptions to the coin will be accepted between September 7 and September 18.


澳門金融管理局為慶祝澳門回歸10週年, 特別鑄造並發行一系列五款及一款套裝設計新穎、極富藝術美感的紀念幣。

紀念幣的面是矗立在澳門路環山頂的媽祖雕像。 寓意著傳說中庇護人們海上活動的媽祖神明, 保祐回歸後的澳門祥和穩定，欣欣向榮。 紀念幣背面是澳門金蓮花廣場的「盛世蓮花」金雕塑。

據悉, 回歸祖國十週年紀念幣2009年12月9日起將在澳門金融管理局、郵政局及各大銀行公開發售。 金融管理局將於9月7日-18日接受預訂回歸祖國十週年紀念幣。

Macau University of Science and Technology propose to build its campus on Hengqin Island 澳門科技大學有意到橫琴辦學 (澳门科技大学有意到横琴办学)

Macau University of Science and Technology propose to build part of its campus on Hengqin Island. The new campus life will allow students to further develop themselves and allowing them to engage in further studies and research. Macau University of Science and Technology is a private institution managed by the MUST Foundation. The University offers both full-time and part-time programs, enrolls a total of 7,000 full-time students. It recruits students from all over the world and mainland China for the undergraduate and graduate programs.

According to the University of Science and Technology, building a campus in Hengqin could can bring benefits for the long-term development of the institution, and it will offer students a better study environment.

Hengqin Island is about triple the size of the 29.2 sq km Macau. Many believes the development of Hengqin Island will provide new spaces for the diversification of Macau's economy.


澳門科技大學在接受澳門媒體采訪時表示, 澳門科大有意並會主動向澳門特區政府提出到橫琴辦學, 期望有更好條件為澳門培育人才。 科技大學認為大專院校的責任包括育人、研究科技成果及服務社會, 因此需要具有規模, 才更有利培養人才。 據悉澳門科大目前在校全日制學生約七千余名, 招生正逐年遞增, 今年招收新生二千多人, 澳門與內地學生約各占一半。

Dermot Blain from Ireland wins the Asia Pacific Poker Tour in Macau 第三季「Poker Stars.net亞太撲克巡迴賽」澳門站賽事愛爾蘭青年奪冠 (第三季「Poker Stars.net亚太撲克巡迴赛」澳门站赛事爱尔兰青年夺冠)

A 25-year old ex-sales manager from Ireland - Dermot Blain has won over half a million US dollars (US $541,081 approximately) with a championship trophy, after winning the PokerStars.net Asia Pacific Poker Tour (APPT) Season 3 Main Event in Macau. He defeated a field of 429 poker players to claim the top prize in a tournament that lasted a grueling six days. This is the first time he claimed the major poker tournament title.

Blain took his seat at the final table as an underdog in 7th place with just 507,000 in chips. Heads up play between Blain and Mike Kim then lasted only four hands, with Blain once again holding a King kicker with Kd-Th going against Kim’s Td-9s on an all-in call.

The runner-up Mike Kim takes home US $385,006 approximately, and the third place went to Daoxing Chen.
