The Stuttgart Radio Symphony Orchestra


The Stuttgart Radio Symphony Orchestra (SWR) - established in Germany in 1945 - concentrates on exemplary interpretations of the great classics and its romantic repertoire, as well as focusing on composers and masterpieces generally unfamiliar to audiences. In 1998, Sir Roger Norrington joined the Orchestra as Principal Conductor, striking up an immediate affinity with each composer's concept of melody. In this concert, the Orchestra invites the American-born Chinese pianist Claire Huangci who won the first prize in the 57th Kosciuszko Chopin International Piano Competition, to perform Prokofiev's 'Piano Concerto No 3 in C major', Haydn's 'Symphony No. 101 in D major - The Clock' and Elgar's 'Enigma Variations'.

Choi Sown Le All-Chopin Recital 紀念蕭邦誕辰二百周年「蔡崇力．蕭邦鋼琴演奏會」

The Macau Piano Association was established by internationally renowned pianist Choi Sown Le in 2008. To commemorate the 200th anniversary of Chopin's birth, the Association will perform several of the maestro's works, including 'Polonaise-Fantaisie', 'Grande Polonaise Brillante', 'Ballade No.4', 'Nocturne', 'Mazurka' and 'Sonata No.3'. This concert is also the preview performance for appearances to be made next month in Beijing and Vienna.

Sarah Chang Violin Recital 美國韓裔張永宙小提琴演奏會 (美国韩裔张永宙小提琴演奏会)

Born in the US to Korean parents, Sarah Chang studied at the prestigious Juilliard School at the age of five, and at eight performed as a soloist with the New York Philharmonic. She has since collaborated with the best orchestras in the world, including the Berlin Philharmonic and the Vienna Philharmonic.

She will be accompanied by American pianist Andrew von Oeyen to perform the romantic Brahms' Sonata for Violin and Piano in D minor and Franck's Violin and Piano Sonata in A major. The Macau premiere of 'Fantasy' by American composer Christopher Theofanidis has been especially composed for Sarah Chang - don't miss it!

The Portuguese Symphony Orchestra


The Portuguese Symphony Orchestra of the San Carlo National Theater - founded in 1993 by the Portuguese Government - has received enthusiastic reviews and many invitations from a variety of music festivals as well as from European concert agencies to tour Europe, America and the Asia Pacific region.

On its first visit to Macau, the orchestra will perform the '2010 New Year's Concert' in conjunction with the Macau Youth Symphony Orchestra.

The Portuguese Symphony Orchestra will begin the concert with the Symphony nr. 3 in A minor “Scottish” by Felix Mendelssohn which will include the participation of 25 more advanced musicians from Macau Youth Symphony Orchestra. The orchestra will then present a selection of waltzes and polkas by the Strauss brothers. The night will end with the whole Macau Youth Symphony joining the PSO in the performance of the polkas Im Krapfenwaldl, op. 336 and Tritsch-Tratsch-Polka op. 336 by Johann Strauss II.

23rd Macau International Music Festival 第23屆澳門國際音樂節 (第23届澳门国际音乐节)

The Macau International Music Festival attracts internationally renowned artists from all over the world to perform in Macau. More than half of this year's program - comprising opera, Chinese classical music, passionate Latin American tempos, New York fusion et al, will be performed in World Heritage-listed Historic Centre of Macau sites such as Dom Pedro V Theatre, St. Dominic's Church and Mount Fortress from 9th October to the 8th November.

Guests will be able to enjoy the atmospheric music from so many genres than in the timeless surroundings of Macau's unique architecture.

“HUSH!! Full Band 2009” is proud to present its fifth edition on the 26th September, bringing to rock fans another exciting musical marathon.

With "Originals" being this year’s theme, the festival provided not only a stage for local bands exposure, but also a fabulous opportunity for Macau rock talents to exchange experiences with bands from China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and South East Asia.

The hottest annual rock festival captivates the audience with supreme drum beats and roaring waves, featuring this year the special guests Soler and Jun Kung. Coming from several Asian cities are the rocky J-Hoon & Nyco Maca+PG (Manila), the bursting Saint Loco (Jakarta), the punky Reflector (Beijing), the sparkled Tizzy Bac (Taipei) as well as the striking RubberBand (Hong Kong) to share their electrifying music.

Selected by audience in 2008, the three “Best Local Bands” Scamper, L.A.V.Y. and OnStage were participated in this year’s rock festival. These groups with other 8 local teams: Blademark, Cactus, Experience, Forget the G, OTO (Once Teen Ones), Paul Meng & Sin Andrew + Mandarin, Vibration and WhyOceans, show up their best skills on stage.

Mariza is the first Portuguese songstress to be recognised by a Grammy Award. Since her debut in 2001, she has attained the status of a great singer, winning the devotion of audiences and critics around the globe.

Mariza has emerged as the new ambassador of fado, lending a new contemporary spirit to this distinctive Portuguese music style through her powerful and soulful voice. Mariza also presents 'Terra', the first masterpiece of a new musical cycle, with a sprinkling of flamenco, Cape Verde morna, folk, jazz and salsa. This is a unique opportunity to hear 'Gente da Minha Terra', which was sung by Mariza in the Hong Kong movie 'Isabella' filmed in Macau, and which won the Silver Bear for best film music at the 56th Berlin International Film Festival.

Secret love in Peach Blossom Land 舞台不敗傳奇《暗戀桃花源》 (舞台不败传奇《暗恋桃花源》)

Two theatre companies mistakenly book into the same venue for rehearsal. One play revolves around an elderly man looking for his long lost love, while the other is a farce about a cuckolded man in a secret paradise . . .

Breathtaking drama, comedy and tragedy share equal billing and common tales are transformed by prominent Taiwanese playwright-director Stan Lai into moving, captivating and meaningful theatre in a collective creation premiered in 1986. This drama was also made into a famous movie in 1992. Chinese TV stars and actors from the National Theatre Company of China and Performance Workshop Theatre Taipei - two great troupes who impressed audiences with their wonderful improvisations in 2006 - now bring this gem to the Macau stage.

亞洲劇場導演賴聲川著名舞台劇 - 《暗戀桃花源》, 自1986年首演, 旋即成為華文戲劇的耀眼之星。

此劇由兩個互不相干的劇組 - 愛情悲劇《暗戀》及古裝喜劇《桃花源》組成, 因爭奪舞台而延伸精彩的情節散發出微妙的共鳴。 此劇1992年曾被改編成同名電影, 獲東京國際影展銀櫻獎及柏林影展「導演論壇」最佳影片等多項國際殊榮。

Founded in 1931, the National Symphony Orchestra of Washington DC (NSOW) will perform in Macau this June. The orchestra has long built a strong reputation as one of the world's finest orchestras.

The orchestra giving approximately 175 concerts a year. An artistic affiliate of the Kennedy Centre - North America's prime performing arts hub - for almost four decades, and with over 100 musicians, the NSOW tours the world's leading concert halls and festivals to consistently popular receptions by appreciative audiences.

This concert in Macau is led by Principal Conductor Iván Fischer. Conductor and NSOW share the Macau stage with Leonidas Kavakos - widely regarded as a violinist of rare virtuosity - to play Mendelssohn's 'Violin Concerto in E minor'. The orchestra will also perform Wagner's powerful 'Prelude to The Master Singers of Nuremberg' and Tchaikovsky's dramatic 'Symphony No. 5'.

Portuguese contemporary repertoire dance company Quorum Ballet is reputable for presenting subtle works and performances of quality. 第20屆澳門藝術節, 5月12日晚上8時將於文化中心上演由葡萄牙Quorum舞團擔任演出的葡萄牙舞蹈《衝擊》, 為本屆澳門藝術節帶來又一場高質素的舞蹈節目。

Quorum舞團成立於2005年, 由6位分別曾任職裡斯本國家舞蹈團（Ballet Gulbenkian）, 紐約Martha Graham舞蹈團及丹麥Peter Schaufuss芭蕾舞團等國際級舞團的精英舞蹈家組成。 舞蹈團以細膩精致的高質素舞作著稱, 今年剛剛獲得第一屆葡萄牙舞蹈大獎“最佳當代舞團”的稱號。

《衝擊》的構思意念獨特, 動作設計俐落且富有力度, 舞台背景設置簡潔巧妙, 前半部分表現人在現代社會中所遇到的各種衝擊。 後半部則舞出嬉鬧的氣氛表現人在各種“衝擊”之中的反應和改變。

A Sadler’s Wells Production - "Sutra" at Macau Arts Festival 藝術節獻演 - 西迪．拉比．切克歐與少林武僧"舞箴" (艺术节献演 - 西迪．拉比．切克欧与少林武僧"舞箴")

Celebrated Flemish/Moroccan choreographer Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, presents a brand new dance work inspired by the skill, strength and spirituality of Buddhist Shaolin monks.

Cherkaoui collaborated closely with Turner Prize-winning English sculptor Antony Gormley, who devised a design consisting of 21 wooden boxes, repositioned throughout the performance to create a striking, ever-changing on-stage environment. Polish composer Szymon Brzóska penned a beautiful, original score for piano, percussion and strings which is played live.
