The Macau Tea Culture House will be closed to the public as it undergoes improvement works. According to the Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau (IACM), a new exhibition “The Joy of Spring Festival - Exhibition of Traditions of the Lunar New Year in the Yunnan and Jiangxi provinces” will be held on February 9, and the Tea House will be reopened to the public on February 10.

The Macau Tea Culture House is located in Lou Lim Ieoc Garden, on Avenida do Conselheiro Ferreira de Almeida. It has been open to the public since June 2005.
The Macao Tea Culture House building was originally part of Yuyuan. The building was later re-designed by renowned architect - Carlos Alberto dos Santos Marreiros, based on the original western-style architecture. The new building is in strong Portuguese style, but decorated with a Chinese tile roof, highlighting the east-meets-west character. Macau Tea Culture House has staged various short-term and long-term exhibitions, as well as tea culture activities since being established.

澳門茶文化館位於荷蘭園大馬路盧廉若公園內, 由澳門民政總署管理, 於2005年6月1日啟用。 茶文化館原址為娛園（即現時的盧廉若公園）的一部分, 後由著名建築師馬若龍統籌設計, 以原西式建築的面貌為意念作重建, 帶有強烈葡萄牙特色的外觀風格, 配上中國色彩的瓦片屋頂, 構造中西合璧, 既有南歐風格, 又與該區的葡式建築相配合。 澳門茶文化館自開館以來, 以不同形式的短期和長期展覽, 以及茶文化活動, 展示澳門茶文化以至中西茶情, 推廣世界茶文化知識和對茶文化的研究。

The white glove, along with more private items of Michael Jackson - the late King of Pop will be exhibited together for the first time as the MJ Gallery at Ponte 16 will officially opens on Monday, 1 February, at 7 pm. The Gallery will be officially open to the public from 9 pm following the opening event. The first 300 visitors to the ceremony will be offered a limited edition MJ souvenir.

International pop diva - Coco Lee, 13-year old Britain’s Got Talent finalist - the Welsh boy Shaheen Jafargholi will sing live at the opening ceremony. Also joining the celebration in “The Gallery” will be pop singers such as Khalil Fong, Louis Cheung and the band Mr.

The Gallery’s will open free to the public with themed sections include: “Time Tunnel”, a journey through the most important moments of MJ’s music life; “Billie Jean” which features scenes from the Billie Jean music video; “Main Exhibition Hall”, a showcase of various precious collections; and Ponte 16 Gift Gallery, with special souvenirs of MJ.

Ponte 16 is a world-class integrated casino-entertainment resort located at the Inner Harbour.

The ‘Exquisite Eight Specials’ are new ‘lucky signature dishes’, in a special menu co-created in a culinary collaboration by the two renowned chefs, to be served at Treasure Palace throughout the Lunar New Year period until the year end. The World Series of Mahjong (WSOM) - world’s largest mahjong tournament, will return to Macau this summer in the third-annual WSOM from 19th to 22nd August at the Venetian Macau. The event this year is expanding its size and reach to bring together some of the top mahjong players in the world and provide them with a brand new tournament experience at a world-class venue.

The event will include three separate tournaments, namely the 3-day single-elimination Main Event World Championship, a US$5,000 buy-in High Rollers Event and the US$1,000 buy-in Reach (Riichi Rules) Event, with a prize pool of US$1 million in the combines events and prize money will be paid to the top 32 places in the Main Event.

The organizer of the event said over the last two World Series events we saw extraordinary mahjong players emerge at these tournaments, with an amazing level of skill and competition.

The Venetian will also sponsor a new qualifying series of tournaments this year, “The Venetian Macau Mahjong Tour”, which includes events in Taipei, Tokyo and Sydney.

Macau as 20th Freest Economy in the World 全球經濟自由度澳門躋身前20 (全球经济自由度澳门跻身前20)

The Heritage Foundation has released the 2010 Report on the Index of Economic Freedom. The Foundation’s 2010 Report says that Macau, as a free port, has long been benefitting from global trade and investment. The overall entrepreneurial environment incorporates high efficiency and low-tax, while property rights are well respected. Foreign investors can conduct business on the same terms as locals. Sound regulatory regime assures free flows of financial resources. Since the open-up of the gaming industry in 2002, Macau has attracted more foreign investors, spurring tourism and overall consumption. Other areas of growth include finance, insurance, and real estate.

Macau’s overall score has improved slightly by 0.5 from a year earlier to 72.5, making it the 20th freest among 179 economies worldwide, up one place from the year before. Macau is ranked 6th in the Asia-Pacific region while its overall score is well above the world and regional averages.

The study covers economies in different regions across the world, which have been assessed with 10 factors of economic freedom. Macau ranks relatively high in factors such as trade freedom, investment freedom, fiscal freedom, monetary freedom and financial freedom.

First rare Car Number Plates auction in 2010 澳門開投特別車牌 (澳门开投特别车牌)

The department of Transportation in Macau raised more than MOP$4 million at a rare number plate auction through the sale of 139 rare car number plates, during the session which was held on 21st January. The auction attracted huge number of bidders whose number exceeded 595; which has reflected positively on the success of the event.

Among the car plates spanning 4 different categories, the MO28-28 plate was the highest achiever, going under the hammer for MOP$380,000. MO33-88 was a close second at MOP$240,000, while the other plates like MO22-22, MO33-33, MO19-99, MO33-66 and MO33-66, all went for more than MOP$100,000 each. Category A comprised 2 plates, while there were 7 plates for category B, 23 plates for category C, whereas category D was the highest on offer with 107 licensing plates.


澳門2010年第1次汽車特別車牌競投1月20日‎開標, 當中不少車牌都以超過十萬元成交。 交通局是次推出的車牌為MO字頭, 競投共開投139個車牌合共收到595份標書, 為庫房進帳454萬多元。 競價最高的車牌是特別號碼MO28-28, 中標價近38萬澳門元, 起底價8萬元, 足足比底價高出了四倍多。 另外有18個車牌無人競投需要收回。

四個組別的車牌底價分別為A組十萬元、B組八萬元、C組五萬元、D組一萬二千元，價高者得。

A組兩個車牌MO22-22收到2份標書, 以23萬9千多元投得; MO33-33收到9份標書, 出價最高為21萬9千多元。 B組的7個車牌收到7份標書, 競投其中4個, 其中MO28-28收到3份標書, 有人出價37萬8888元, 成為全場最高承投價。 C組23個車牌共收到21份標書競投其中11個車牌, 其中MO18-18及MO19-99最受歡迎, 分別收到5份標書, 最後分別以7萬元及10萬1000投得。 好意頭的MO33-88及MO33-66同樣以接近24萬及16萬成為競投的囊中之物。 底價最低的D組車牌數量最多, 共有107個, 共收到551份標書競投其中104個車牌, 最多人落標的是MO33-66, 收到15份標書, 最後以出價最高的16萬元成交, 高出底價13倍多, 是D組車牌最高的承投價。 另外，MO20-00、MO30-30、MO33-38、MO39-99亦分別收到13份標書。

Macau's casino industry logged record gross gaming and gambling activities, posted gross revenues of MOP$120.383 billion (US$15.047 billion) in the 2009, which past a year on year growth of 9.6 percent, the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (GICB) said.

Stanley Ho's Sociedade de Jogos (SJM) continued to be the local casino industry's market leader among the six rival operators, with a share of around 30 percent, followed by Las Vegas Sands' local operations with a share of about 23 percent. Wynn Resorts finished in third place, with a share of approximately 15 percent. Melco Crown finished in fourth position, with a share of about 12 percent, followed by Galaxy with approximately 11 percent and MGM Grand with nearly nine percent.

The casino sector in Macau generated about 99 percent of last year's total gaming and betting receipts, VIP baccarat provided revenues of MOP$79.834 billion or 66.88 percent of all gambling revenues, with both varieties of baccarat – VIP baccarat and baccarat – providing revenues of 105.332 billion patacas, or 88.24 percent of the total.

Bryan Berg will launch an attempt to break his own Guinness World Record for the largest house of freestanding playing cards, at the Venetian Macau over the upcoming Chinese New Year. The World Record attempt will commence on January 26 and complete construction on March 10 at The Venetian. Bryan Berg added that this will be his most ambitious project he has undertaken, and there couldn’t be a more fitting place to build the world’s largest house of cards than at the world’s largest resort hotel.

Bryan Berg will attempt to build a replica of The Venetian Macau, The Plaza Macau and Sands Macau buildings - will use more than 190,000 cards and take 44 days to complete. The composition will be over 10 meters long, 3.5 meters tall, and weigh more than 227 kilograms. The cards Bryan Berg will use in this record attempt would stretch more than 17 kilometers.

After 10 days of displaying the completed record-setting replica, on March 20 Berg will have to knock them all down to prove that no tape, glue, or tricks were used. Bryan Berg will manage workshops for children, teaching them how to stack cards, as well as card stacking contests throughout the the construction period.

Visitors can see the project in front of the ZAIA Theater from 26th January to 20th March at the Venetian Macau.

Bryan Berg holds the Guinness record for the world’s largest house of freestanding playing cards, and the Guinness record for the world’s tallest house of freestanding playing cards.

由2010年1月26日起, Bryan Berg將挑戰在44日內以超過19萬張撲克牌堆疊出澳門威尼斯人、澳門百利宮及澳門金沙三座建築物, 並定於3月10日完成壯舉。 路氹金光大道的地標建築物及每一座擁有的特色細節 - 包括里亞特橋、鐘塔、弧形的澳門百利宮及澳門金沙, 將一一顯現在其撲克牌建築物。 完成後整個撲克牌建築物將會長10.5米、高3.5米及總重量超過227公斤。 如將Berg這次所用的撲克牌平放總長度將超過17公里。

為表證實, Bryan Berg會於作品十天展示期屆滿後將整個建築群推倒。 Berg會在不使用膠水、膠紙或黏合劑的情況下完成整個撲克牌建築物。

在挑戰期間澳門威尼斯人及Berg將舉辦工作坊教授小朋友如何疊撲克牌技巧，以及舉行堆疊撲克牌比賽。

The Macau Science Center (MSC) will finally open its doors on January 25, which marks the official date for the center opening to the general public. The Science Center was entered its trial operation phase since 19th December last year.

The Center will showcases a number of exhibits featuring current technologies, as well as exhibits and models. It will includes a planetarium and screen 3D movies. The screen 3D movies are the only center in Asia offering, besides Beijing in China.

The gross floor area of the Macau Science Center totals 20,000 square meters. The 5,800 square meter Exhibition Center includes 14 galleries arranged in an upward spiral format, totaling around 450 interactive exhibits. The 14 galleries topics are Space Science, Fun Science, Children Science, Science Express, Robotic, Science Exploration, Earth, Meteorology, Eco-conservation, Sport Health, Sport Challenge and Food Science. There are also two galleries reserved for special exhibitions.

18 years olds or under, 65 years old or over, full-time students, and disabled persons and one carer can visit the Exhibition Center for free. While other residences will only have to pay MOP$15 per admission ticket.

由於部分展廳仍在安裝展品, 短期內開放其中9個展廳。 科學館展覽中心14個展廳中除了兩個屬於短期展廳外, 另外地球廳、氣象廳以及食物科學廳仍在安裝展品, 未能全數對外開放。 但公衆仍可以參觀其餘九個不同主題的展廳以及在天文館欣賞3D球幕電影。 各展區的配備適合全家大小一起前來遊玩。 相信科學館可吸引澳門市民和訪澳遊客。

14個展廳包括兒童主題的兒童樂園廳、兒童科學廳、科學快車廳; 科技主題的太空科學廳、機械人廳、科學探索廳; 環境主題的地球廳、氣象廳、環保廳; 生活主題的運動健康廳、運動競技廳、食物科學廳。

澳門居民18歲以下或65歲以上人士免費進場, 成年居民需以15元優惠價購入場券, 除了2歲以下小童外, 觀看天文館節目需另外購票。 除2歲以下不佔座位小童外, 分別需購買20元或30元門票進場。

MGM plans Macau IPO 澳門美高梅金殿計劃香港上市 (澳门美高梅金殿计划香港上市)

The casino operator MGM is aiming to list its Macau operations on the Hong Kong stock exchange, hoping to raise up to US$1 billion as early as Q2 this year, although the company has not released an estimated value. It has currently begin the process of vetting investment banks to work on a Hong Kong initial public offering.

MGM Grand Macau - the joint venture between MGM Mirage and its Macao partner Pansy Ho, would be the third U.S. casino marquee name to float its Macau operations on the Hong Kong exchange after Las Vegas Sands' and Wynn Resorts'. Wynn Resorts raised US$1.63 billion in the Hong Kong listing of its Macau unit, while Sands China raised US$2.5 billion in their initial public offering.

MGM Grand Macau would be the last of Macau's six main casino operators to list shares in Hong Kong.

Paula Tsui is a well-known Cantopop singer whose career spans several decades. She made her recording debut in 1969 in association with Crown Records and since then, she has produced more than 100 albums of both new and old compilations. One of Paula’s biggest claims to fame was when she was featured in the Guinness World Records book in 1992 for her Amway Paula Tsui in Concert. LORD ASWOD - internationally known as DJ LORD, originally hailed from Savannah, Ga, and now calls Atlanta home. DJ LORD has been acknowledged for years in the competition circuit as one of the best turntablists in the United States. After demonstrating his turntable expertise for members of one of Hip Hop’s immortal pioneers, DJ LORD stepped up to fill the shoes of the legendary TERMINATOR X for the group PUBLIC ENEMY.

In 1999, DJ LORD joined PUBLIC ENEMY on their 40th World Tour. With these performances DJ LORD gained worldwide recognition and acceptance amongst an elite group of turntablists and soon became a highly sought after commodity. While DJ battles and Hip Hop have been at the foundation of his career, LORD is also widely recognized in the DRUM & BASS arena; captivating audiences with his mesmerizing fusion of Drum & Bass with Hip Hop breaks and beats.

In addition to PE, DJ LORD is currently touring with Flavor Flav in his solo effort, and the House of Hip Hop Concert Series with Red Reign Entertainment. He has previously performed with rock band Confrontation Camp and 420 Monks. Born in the US to Korean parents, Sarah Chang studied at the prestigious Juilliard School at the age of five, and at eight performed as a soloist with the New York Philharmonic. Mr. Jason Alcock, Chef de Cuisine of celebrated restaurant JJ’s Bar and Grill at Crown Towers, Melbourne, will be introducing his unique brand of Australian cuisine as special guest chef at Horizons from January 9-16, 2010, creating mouth watering dishes showcasing the very best of Australian-sourced ingredients.

City of Dreams also continues its ongoing art appreciation in 2010, with a selection of works displayed at Horizons, from Australian artist Mrs. Beverley Lay. Her contemporary pieces have been exhibited in both Australia and Canada. Her exhibition combines the use of finely detailed black on white pieces inspired by 16th and 17th century embroidered lace, as well as other beautifully colored images depicting artistic interpretations of various floras. The exhibition will feature at least 9 pieces from her collection entitled “Black on White”, and more artworks from another collection entitled “Flora”, including two large feature pieces in an explosion of colors.

Chef Alcock imports seafood and other fresh ingredients of the highest quality straight from Australia. His culinary style highlights the freshness and quality of the ingredients he uses, allowing their natural flavors and textures to take center stage.

The three-course Australian set menu is available for MOP388. The five-course dinner set menu is priced at MOP$638 or MOP$888 including matching wines with each dinner course. Prices are subject to 10% service charge.

Waterfront Air to start flights to Macau 水上飛機將開通澳門航線 (水上飞机将开通澳门航线)

Waterfront Air set to finally start the seaplane services from China’s Shenzhen to Macau, Guangzhou and Hong Kong in the fourth quarter of 2010.

Waterfront Air will lease a fleet of 18-seater DHC Twin Otter floatplanes for the flights. The flights would take about 20 minutes. It plans to run 20 flights a day. The firm estimates 150,000 visitors will take the trips every year.

It was reported that back in 2008, the firm which founded by Canadian entrepreneur Michael Agopsowicz, was planing to operate a scheduled seaplane service between a new Kai Tak Waterfront Aerodrome and the Pak On ferry terminal near Macau’s Cotai Strip.

A mighty bluefin tuna - representing one of the world’s most expensive sashimi, has sold in Japan’s first auction of the year at the world's largest wholesale fish market - Tsukiji fish market in Tokyo. The fish market is known worldwide as the top place to buy fish.

The tuna auction was held at 5am, in a warehouse structure where flash frozen tuna are laid out on wooden palates for inspection and auction. About 100 wholesalers placed bids on these tuna.

The 168kg tuna, bought by one of the representative from Edo Japanese Restaurant in Macau, was priced for around MOP$400,000. Locals and guests can experience this tuna at any of the Edo Japanese Restaurants in Macau from 6th to 10th January. The big tuna was among 570 put up for auction Tuesday. About 40 percent of these auctioned fish came from abroad, including from Indonesia and Mexico.

Bluefin tuna is commercially cultivated off the Japanese coast. It is an important source of seafood, providing most of the tuna used in sushi. Japan is the largest consumer of Atlantic and Pacific Bluefins as they eat 80% of the fish caught.

Edo Japanese Restaurant - one of the oldest Japanese restaurants in Macau, is a local stylish restaurant serves fantastic Japanese food in an upscale environment. The restaurant specialises in authentic Japanese cuisine with a connoisseur selection of sashimi and sushi flown in directly from Japan prepared by chefs rigorously trained in traditional Japanese culinary arts. Its first store is located in the ground floor on Old Wing at Hotel Lisboa, with other stores at Venetian, City of Dreams and Hotel Lam Kwai Fung Macau, two new stores is coming soon in 2010.

極品藍鰭吞拿魚魚肉質一致被當地漁販評定為全場最高質素的一條, 肉質肥美且顏色深紅味濃, 嚥下後味道更停留於口中。 藍鰭吞拿魚是日本國寶級美食, 專家預計藍鰭吞拿魚將在三年後絕種。

築地漁市場每年舉行“日本一”競投活動, 寓意全年好運的「日本一」藍鰭吞拿魚王的競投按照傳統, 於築地漁市場的首個交易日內進行。 今年共有逾50條大藍鰭吞拿魚即場拍賣, 其中有5條超過300公斤。 澳門今年首次有集團參與。 江戶日本料理（佳景集團屬下餐飲分店）代表昨日凌晨在築地漁市場的“心臟地帶”吞拿魚拍賣處視察環境, 為首次競投準備。 當地時間清晨五時拍賣開始, 拍賣官以極速獨特語言拍賣, 僅以獨特手勢“搶魚”。 快者於幾秒內成交, 慢者亦不過一、兩分鐘, 令現場更為熱鬧及緊張。

澳門江戶日本料理代表與當地10名商販爭奪重達168公斤的優質藍鰭吞拿魚, 經數十秒激烈角逐最終以約40萬澳門元成交, 為澳門飲食業界在日本寫下歷史性的一頁。 江戶日本料理希望透過是次競投的參與, 能加深日本對澳門的認識, 而明年亦將會考慮再度出擊, 將好運帶返澳門予每位市民。
