City of Dreams announced that it welcomed its one millionth guest on Saturday, June 27. 27 days after its opening on June 1. More than 37,000 visitors a day on average have experienced this first-hand new entertainment resort.
The surprised one millionth guest couple - Mr. Au Yiu Hung and Ms. Cheng Shuk Yin, were greeted at the main entrance of City of Dreams by Mr. Greg Hawkins, President of City of Dreams, to mark this important milestone.
“It is our great pleasure to welcome Mr. and Mrs. Au to City of Dreams as our one millionth guest,” said Mr. Greg Hawkins. “It is a real achievement to have reached this landmark just 27 days since our opening. We are delighted with the customer interest generated so far by City of Dreams. Visitors are clearly eager to experience for themselves the wide range of entertainment experiences we have to offer at this amazing urban destination resort.”

Macau granted jurisdiction over UM new campus on Hengqin Island 澳門將管轄橫琴島澳門大學新校區 (澳门将管辖横琴岛澳门大学新校区)
Macau SAR was authorised to have jurisdiction over the new campus of the University of Macau (UM) on Hengqin Island. This means Macau will exercise jurisdiction over the new campus zone according to the laws of the Macau SAR. The new campus will offer an appropriate academic environment and advanced teaching and research facilities, thereby developing UM into a world-class university.
The UM University Council and University Assembly had been in dialogue with the Government, about the feasibility of setting up a campus on Hengqin Island two years ago. The new campus is expected to complete within three years. The plot of land would be rented to Macau until 19th December, 2049.
The whole campus will cover an area of 1.0926 square km, about 20 times larger than the current campus. A tunnel will be built under the channel to enable 24-hour commuting between the Hengqin campus and the current campus in Macau. People entering or leaving the campus will not be subjected to border control.
Once the new campus is done, the current campus will be serve for educational, academic, cultural, recreational and sports activities that are relevant to the Macau community.

新校區與澳門隔水相望, 位於橫琴口岸以南。 面積比現有校園大20倍左右, 約佔地1平方公里, 可容納最少一萬名學生。 澳門以租賃方式取得土地使用權, 期限至2049年12月19日。 日後可以續期。

Shun Tak Holdings Ltd announced that the Icelandic consortium has backed out of its contract to buy Tower 4 of One Central Residences - a luxury high-rise development on the Macau waterfront, due to the Icelandic currency and financial system imploded.
The consortium signed a contract in October 2006, to spend $4410 per square ft purchasing all 68 apartments of Block Four at One Central Residences.
The average selling price for Tower 4 of One Central Residences amounts to $5000 per square ft. Units will be available for sale at the end of this year. It was also asking about $12000 to $13000 per square ft for the 15 special units, and expected to fetch over $20,000 per square ft for the penthouse (triple floors) units development. The service apartment will be available for public sale in 2010.

The formation of the Chamber and vision is to work for increased business cooperation between Romania and Macau, a clear evidence of the will from both sides to further increase the already well established business relations.
The Chamber of Commerce of Romania will be set up to further promote co-operation in investment and trade between Romania and Macau.

It has attracted over 500 notable guests from Hong Kong and Macau attending the event.

Mandarin Oriental Macau rebranded as "The Grand Lapa Hotel" 澳門文華東方酒店易名 (澳门文华东方酒店易名)
Mandarin Oriental International Limited wholly-owned subsidiary, Mandarin Oriental Holding Company Limited (MOHCL) has completed the sale of its 50 percent interest in Mandarin Oriental Macau to Sociedade de Turismo e Diversões de Macau (STDM).
The hotel will be rebranded as The Grand Lapa Hotel, which will be with effect from August 1. The Group will continue to manage the hotel for a period of up to two years, to ensure a smooth transition of operations to the new owner.
From 2010 the group will manage a new 215-room Mandarin Oriental hotel currently being built at the "One Central" complex.

Macau plans free Citywide Wi-Fi Network 免費無線寬頻上網 (免费无线宽频上网)
The government of Macau initiated the “Wireless Broadband System” project, to offer the public wireless access at free cost. The first phase will entail the installation of Wi-Fi access points at 34 various locations including libraries, museums, parks and squares across Macau, estimate for completion at the end of 2009 or early 2010. Following that, an additional 48 locations including ports, Government service locations, activity centers, as well as additional parks and squares will be installed with Wi-Fi.
The Government is currently inviting qualified parties to bid for the public tender to provide a wireless broadband system.
While connectivity is free, users will need to register first to gain access. The Wireless network is expected to be up by early 2010.
澳門政府開展“無線寬頻系統”計劃, 首階段計劃將在在圖書館、博物館、部分大型公園及廣場等34個地點鋪設無線寬頻網絡接入點, 2010年初開始提供無線上網服務。
無線寬頻網絡初步構思為免費, 但市民和旅客使用前需先行登記。 下一階段並會在口岸、政府部份部門的接待公眾地方、活動中心等共48個地點鋪設接入點, 預計明年中前完成。 電信管理局估算兩階段建設費用約2千萬元。

One of Canada's best-known cultural exports - Cirque du Soleil, is celebrating its 25th anniversary around the world on 16th June. Spectators from around the world will don red clown noses in this unifying celebration.
ZAİA will lead the global festivities with a cosmic pre-show cocktail party. Guests can take photos with ZAİA artists and receive a symbolic, flashing red clown nose to wear at a certain point during the performance.

IIFA show in Macau 印度國際電影學會頒獎禮澳門開幕 (印度国际电影学会颁奖礼澳门开幕)
India's movie stars already started making their presence in Macau for the "Bollywood Oscars" weekend, which begins from 11st June. The 3 days International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) event will feature performances, premieres, celebrity parties, workshops and business forums.
The three day event is being hosted by Ritesh Deshmukh, Lara Dutta and Boman Irani. Three child stars of the multiple Oscar-winning movie - "Slumdog Millionaire", attended the opening day of the IIFA on Thursday. Other attractions include performances by the world-famous Cirque de Soleil and British singer Peter Andre.
Bollywood legend Amitabh’s wax statue - flown in Macau from London's Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum for the IIFA celebrations, was unveiled at the Venetian during the opening day of the IIFA.

Ruins of St. Paul’s among one of “New 7 Wonders of Portuguese Origin” 大三巴牌坊獲選為“葡萄牙人建造的新七大奇觀” (大叁巴牌坊获选为“葡萄牙人建造的新七大奇观”)
Ruins of St. Paul’s is listed as one of the monuments among the “New 7 Wonders of Portuguese Origin”. The winning monuments of the competition were announced on June 10 - the Portugal National Day, in a ceremony held in Portugal.
Macau Government Tourist Office said the listing is honored to us and it certainly will help to promote Macau in Portugal and the Portuguese speaking countries. With the history and architectural elements of the Ruins of St. Paul’s, the structure now becomes one of the most famous landmark in Macau.
Other sites of the “New 7 Wonders of Portuguese Origin” include monuments in India, Morocco, Cape Verde and Brazil. The monuments were selected from a total of 27, located in 16 countries.
澳門大三巴牌坊被列為“葡萄牙人建造的新七大奇觀”其中一座建築物。 獲選名單於葡國日(6月10日)在葡葡牙公佈。 澳門政府旅遊局表示, 很榮幸位於澳門的大三巴牌坊獲選, 這定能有助於葡萄牙及葡語系國家推廣澳門。 事實上大三巴牌坊的歷史及建築元素, 已讓它成為澳門的地標及著名旅遊景點。

The 9th Macau Lotus Festival 第九屆澳門荷花節 (第九届澳门荷花节)
The Macau Lotus Festival has been staged in June of each year. This year, the 9th anniversary is approaching with a series of events. The festival will be stage from 10th June until the 28th June.
Besides the major exhibition area of the Taipa Houses-Museum, pots of lotus flower will be displayed at major parks, urban green belts, as well as in tourist and sightseeing spots throughout Macau. A series of cultural and recreational activities will be held to evoke a new cultural experience. This includes a painting exhibition, a photography exhibition, a lotus flower arrangement competition, etc.
澳門每年六月份均舉辦“澳門荷花節”, 本年度第九屆澳門荷花節於龍環葡韻揭幕, 展期將於6月10日至6月28日舉行。 主要展場設於氹仔龍環葡韻及舊城區。 除主要場地, 盧廉若公園、紀念孫中山公園、花城公園、塔石廣場部分道路綠化帶及圓形地、主要名勝及旅遊點等也會擺設栽培超過8000盆, 30多個品種的荷花。

Hong Kong pop star Leo Ku Kui-kei today made a special appearance at City of Dreams on the 5th June, to celebrate his contract signing ceremony with Emperor Entertainment Group (‘EEG’). The signing ceremony was attended by the EEG pop stars.
Mr. Ku donated his saxophone to Hard Rock Hotel at City of Dreams, the saxophone had been his companion in developing many of his numerous albums and performances throughout his entertainment career.
“I am so thrilled to celebrate my contract signing with EEG at Macau’s newest leisure entertainment destination, City of Dreams” Leo Ku Kui-kei said. “Being featured in Hard Rock’s Memorabilia Collection is a significant recognition of an artist’s achievements. The Global Gaming Expo Asia (G2E Asia) in Macau 亞洲國際博彩博覽會 (亚洲国际博彩博览会)
Global Gaming Expo Asia (G2E Asia) 2009 - a premier gaming exhibition and conference event dedicated to the Asian markets, kicks off on the 2nd June after the City of Dreams held its grand opening on 1st June. The three-day conference will continue through Thursday, June 4, at the Venetian Macau CotaiExpo. This year, the event features 30 percent new exhibitors hailing from more than 20 countries worldwide. G2E Asia attendees will be among the first to experience 'City of Dreams' first-hand.
The organizer of the event will also honor Macau gaming magnate Stanley Ho, whose company SJM runs 19 of the city's 32 casinos, with the G2E Asia Visionary Award during the Opening Ceremony. Stanley Ho is being honored for his lifetime of achievement as a leader in the Asian gaming industry.
G2E Asia 2009 conference attendees will participate in a full-day forum on 4th June. The keynote address for this forum, "Asian Analysts: The Future of Gaming in Asia," will be held Thursday, June 4, at 9 am in the Naples Ballroom at the Venetian Macau.

University of Macau Awarded Macau’s First U.S. Patent in Hi-technology Microelectronics 澳門大學微電子研究獲美國專利 (澳门大学微电子研究获美国专利)
The University of Macau (UM) has earned Macau’s first U.S. patent in hi-technology microelectronics. A UM research team composed of Prof. Rui Martins, UM Vice Rector (Research), Prof. U Seng Pan and Dr. Mak Pui In from the Faculty of Science and Technology, has achieved significant results in very-large-scale integrated circuit chips design, with the research in “Two-Step Channel Selection for Wireless Receiver Front-Ends”. This achievement has put UM at the forefront of the worldwide research in hi-technology microelectronics.
The new technology passed the rigorous review process of the U.S. Patent and Trade Mark Office in May 2009, and was granted the very first U.S. patent in this area in UM and Macau. It has also received the IEEE CASS 2009 Chapter of the Year Award.
澳門大學一項用於多制式接收器的雙階段頻道選取技術高科技微電子研究項目, 成功獲得美國專利。 項目由澳大副校長（研究）馬許願教授, 科技學院余成斌副教授和麥沛然博士等組成的研究團隊長期致力開發。
負責研究, 近年以麥沛然博士為第一主力研發的“用於多制式接收器的雙階段頻道選取技術”更取得了重大突破, 研究成果將可應用在無線電通訊上, 至於配合其研究發展出來的高科技無線電產品, 具有多制式及低成本等特點。
麥沛然, 花了3年多, 在今年五月成功通過美國專利局的嚴格審核才獲取專利, 為澳門及澳大取得了該領域的首個美國專利權, 這標誌著澳大高科技微電子研究的水平已站在國際最前沿。 現時會繼續完善技術, 希望盡快在市場上應用。
